 What is a gerund?

A gerund is a verb form that ends in -ing and functions as a noun in a sentence. 

For example, "Swimming is my favorite activity" or "I enjoy cooking for my friends." 

In these examples, "swimming" and "cooking" are both gerunds. They can be used as the subject or object of a sentence, or they can be used as a main verb or some other word. 

Gerunds can also be used after certain verbs, such as "enjoy," "mind," and "finish," to show what the subject is doing. For example: 

" I am cooking food. "  etc.
