Parts of Speech :-
In traditional grammar, the parts of speech are the categories of words that are used to make up sentences.
The main parts of speech include:
Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Pronouns, Prepositions, Conjunctions, Interjections, Helping verbs/auxiliary verbs and Modal verbs.
Each part of speech plays a specific role in the sentence, and is used to express different types of information. For example:
Nouns are used to name people, places, and things; like, Badshahi Masjid, Ali , Lahore, Lahore museum, Pakistan etc.
while verbs are used to express actions or states of being; like, work, play, study etc.
Adjectives and adverbs are used to provide additional information about nouns and verbs, respectively.
Note: adverbs refer to any activity regarding it's time, place, degree, frequency, reason and manner etc.
Examples:
famous, strong(adjectives),
beautifully, usually, last Sunday, often, at a concert etc. (adverbs)
Pronouns are used to replace nouns, prepositions are used to show relationships between nouns. Examples: He,She I, We, Me, Their, Your etc.
Conjunctions are used to connect words, phrases and clauses. Example: and, so or, though as although, neither etc.
Interjections are used to express strong emotions. Example: Hurrah! Aha! Alas! etc.
Helping verbs/auxiliary verbs: Examples:
is, am, are, was, were, has, have, had, do, does, did etc.
Modal verbs: Examples:
can~could,
may~might,
Will ~would
shall~should
Must/has to/ have to/ had to etc.
Note: We use first form of verb after the Modal verbs.
