Change of Direct Narrations into Indirect Narrations:
Direct and Indirect Sentences:-
Direct and indirect sentences are sentence structures that describe the way in which a speaker or writer conveys a message to a listener or reader.
A direct sentence is one in which the speaker or writer directly states their message, using explicit language.
An indirect sentence, on the other hand, is one in which the speaker or writer implies their message, rather than stating it directly.
Note:
The sentence in inverted commas is called a reported speech or narration whereas the clause without the inverted commas is called a reporting speech. It is note-able that the reported speech or narration is changed keeping in view the reporting speech or narration.
Here are some examples of direct and indirect sentences:
Direct:
She said, "I am going to the store."
Indirect:
She said that she was going to the store.
Direct:
He said, "Can you pass the salt?"
Indirect:
He asked me if I could pass the salt.
In general, direct sentences are more straightforward and easier to understand, while indirect sentences may be more subtle and require more interpretation.
Direct indirect solution:-
To convert a direct sentence into an indirect sentence, you can use words and phrases like "ask," "inquire," "wonder," "request," or "suggest" to introduce the speaker's words. You can also use phrases like "he said that," "she mentioned that," or "they asked if" , the teacher advised to(in positive sentence)/ the teacher advised not to( in negative sentences)... to introduce the direct sentence.
For example:
Direct: She said, "I am going to the store."
Indirect: She mentioned that she was going to the store.
Direct: I said, "Can you pass the salt?"
Indirect:I asked him if he could pass the salt.
It's important to keep in mind that the tense of the verb in the direct sentence may need to be changed to match the tense of the verb introducing the direct sentence in the indirect form.
For example:
Direct: He said, "I will go to the store."
Indirect: He told that he would go to the store.
